General Education Lessons

The lessons of General Education, Language, Mathematics, Social and Professional Education, are taught as it is scheduled by the administration, that is 3 hours a week in each department.
The teaching of the above lessons aims at the maintenance of certain basic achieved dexterities of (reading, writing, numerical etc), but also in the development of dexterities of each student, depending on his intellectual potential and his Special Educational Needs. The sections are composed of few pupils and the distribution of pupils is made after an educational evaluation, so that a relative homogeneity in the intellectual and cognitive level of students can exist in each class. In this way we strengthen the effectiveness of teaching , the assignment of small team work and the activities in class.

There is no specific material and books in the work shops of Special Vocational Education and Training. Therefore, each teaching hour, every course, in each section, is adapted quantitatively and qualitatively to the Special Educational Needs of particular pupils. Also, certain students are also provided with individualised teaching and especially pupils who face more difficulties.

Beyond the theoretical knowledge, particular emphasis is given on the benefits of practical - experiential knowledge, in order that our students will manage to achieve everything they learnt, in their daily life: e.g. imaginary and real markets, so that they can handle money in the right way, publishing of a school newspaper with a more interesting form of expression and production of speaking, use of internet for information and entertainment, visits to public services (GREEK POST, GREEK PHONE SERVICE etc) with the aim of familiarization with the transactions that take place there.

OPINIONS...

In the EEEEK there is big flexibility in teaching, because of the enormous incongruity in the intellectual potential and the Special Educational Needs of students that study in the particular schools. Although we have a little experience also we have factual experience in Chios EEEEK,so we have recognized the importance of flexibility in the material that is taught each time in our school, as well as in the variety of methods of teaching that is used In spite of these, through a more critical view, emerges the difficulty and the complexity of teaching that "is left to each of us? the teacher that should find daily material without any help (and without even training in special education sometimes), He confronts a lot of arguments and insecurities. He constantly tries and detects new prospects, but also discovers new weaknesses in the subject and in his method. He revises practices and establishes others. He detects new possibilities of children and often becomes student of his students...

Without pessimistic attitude and with the intention to share our worries, we expressed these opinions and we are open, through our web page, to any kind of communication with colleagues and parents of students from all over Greece. Of course we would be interested in an essential exchange of experiences, worries, opinions and proposals about the function of EEEEK.
